What's New:

8/1/02: I realize it's been a few months since I've updated the site. I realize I should at least try to offer a reason.

I could, for example, talk about how for the last few months I've held down a regular 9 to 5 job for the first time in my life. At first I thought that I would be able to come home and I'd have a few hours to do whatever I wanted, but more often than not, I found myself coming home and pretty much collapsing from exhaustion instead.

Or I could mention the new computer that has occupied nearly all of my free time the past few weeks-- first shopping for the parts, then putting the thing together and getting it working, and now attempting to get the most out of the not-quite-top-of-the-line-but-nevertheless-very-healthy 2.26 GHz processor churning away inside. I could even, in a related story, talk about how I got sucked into Warcraft 3 for a good couple of weeks.

Or I could pull something totally random out of my ass and hope that you didn't see it for the lame excuse it was. But I was never a big fan of lame excuses. So let's just boil it down to this: I haven't been writing fanfiction the past four months, despite the excitement I had been feeling at the progress of my two main stories.

So what does this mean, exactly? It means that every time I sit down to actually accomplish some writing, I immediately feel the pressure of deadlines: hurry up and write something, you're so far behind schedule that at the rate you're going you'll be finishing The Perfect Warrior about the same time that the Titanic finally reaches New York. It's a feeling which, quite frankly, makes writing near-impossible.

So, what does that mean, in turn? It means that I still fully hope to bring my fics to an end, however, it means that will make absolutely no promise-- not even offer an idea-- as to when that might possibly be. If I'm going to work, I can't do it on a monthly schedule, or even a bimonthly schedule. When updates happen, they happen. If you don't want to check the site, join the mailing list. No excuses-- if you don't have a Yahoo! username, get one-- it's free, and it takes about 60 seconds to do. If you absolutely don't want to get a Yahoo! ID, e-mail me and I'll make sure that every e-mail that goes out to the mailing list goes out to you too.

I don't know when this site will be updated next. I don't want to discourage you, but it may be a long time. I hope that by ridding myself of any pressure to update this site, I'll be more able to actually get some writing done, but I make no promises. Another thing that may help is that come August 19th I'm going back to school-- which, contrary to what I thought back in January, may actually help rather than hinder my writing. Last year, what I often did was carry a small notebook that I would write in between classes, when I didn't have much work to do and inspiration hit me. I got a lot done that way, and soon I hope to be doing that again.

I realize that the sabbatical I've taken over the past few months has probably cost me some readers-- and if you're still out there reading this, you truly do have my appreciation-- it means I've written something that you enjoyed enough to want more. I guess that was one of the reasons I started to writing fanfics in the first place-- to see if my writing was good enough that people would actually want to read it. Whether or not I've passed that test, well, that's for y'all to decide. Maybe I should check the site's weblogs again just to make sure that there are still people actually visiting the site.

Anyway, that's enough rambling for me. I could go on for a few more paragraphs, but I figure it's not really necessary. Hopefully this will be the start to my getting back on track and doing some writing. Thanks, all, for your support.

My Fanfic Collection

This is the small collection of fics I've written. The response I've gotten has been small but generally positive, so right now I plan to continue all of them. After some of the completed fics I've put up a few Author's Notes about why I wrote the fic, what I was trying to accomplish, etc... they should probably be called "Author's Ramblings." Oh, well. Feel free to peruse them if you're interested or skip 'em if you're not.

Be warned: most of these fics are serious in nature. I wouldn't use the word "dark" to describe these, but they are serious. They also tend to be violent, so be warned that you may see blood.

Any comments, feedback, or constructive criticism from readers are greatly welcome. You can reach me at taliesin03@yahoo.com, or you can sign my Guestbook. (Click here to view the Guestbook.)

The Perfect Warrior

This was my first fic. Fed up with his father, Ranma deserts him at the age of 12. He is found by the Chinese Amazons, who recognize his potential and raise him as their own. But Ranma's years with Genma have affected him deeply...

In the Line of Fire

Twelve years after the manga... and something terrible has happened. Stuck in his cursed form, and working as a police officer, Ranma fights to isolate herself from her past life. Then, she is forced to confront it when a police investigation uncovers a plot that leads back to an old acquaintance.

The Mermaid Chronicles

Take 2 pints of 'Ranma 1/2' by Rumiko Takahashi, a cup of 'Mermaid Forest' by Rumiko Takahashi, throw in equal amounts of WAFFiness and angst, then toss in a dash of violence, and the slightest pinch of sarcasm... I present to you the result: The Mermaid Chronicles. A series of oneshots, all linked by a common premise... immortality. And maybe even the occasional mermaid.

A Love Immortal

Cologne is once again up to her usual mischief. Or, maybe there's nothing "usual" about it... what exactly is she plotting, anyway? The first fic in the series, and it covers how Ranma and Akane's world gets completely turned upside down.

*Author's Notes*

The Endless Hunt (Teaser)

This story takes place during the two years before Ranma and Akane leave Nerima that were skipped by A Love Immortal. Ranma, Akane, and the people around them must come to grips with what has happened. Things get more complicated when a mysterious traveler shows up looking for Cologne. A story of a hate becoming respect, a respect becoming friendship, and a group of children becoming adults.

Once Along a River (Teaser)

A story that spans a lifetime... a member of the Ranma cast reminisces about three lives, one quest, and in doing so, strives to find the answers they seek before their time runs out forever...

Oneshots

Finding a Path

A short little angsty number, in which a certain member of the Ranma cast must confront and deal with his feelings in the aftermath of Ranma and Akane's successful marriage. Not particularly original, but I'm still quite pleased with the way it came out.

*Author's Notes*

A Day in the Life of Ranker Saitama

My first attempt at humor. It's a short spammy piece that I'm not even sure qualifies as a fanfic; basically, it's a Ranma fic that's been run through an English spellchecker. Stupid, yes, but it came out rather amusing, so I decided to post it. You may question my sanity after reading this, but hey, what else is new? ^_^

The Awakening

This is a really short Ranma/Starcraft crossover. All I'm going to say about it is that you probably won't understand it unless you've played through most of the one-player Starcraft campaigns and know who the major personas are and such.

Original Stories

Listed here are original (i.e. non-fanfiction) short stories that I've written. More will be posted as time goes on, and someday I may even get off my lazy arse and make a separate page for them. In the meantime, here they are- if you'd rather stick with fanfiction, feel free to ignore 'em, but if you're up for reading something a bit different, then check 'em out.

Chasing the Iris

A story about a young man struggling to cope with tragedy. This was originally written for my Fiction Writing class, and may get expanded and revised in the near future.

'Neers in Black

In addition to the fics on this site, I'm currently involved in some joint fanfic projects with The Stubborn One, and we've named our little group 'Neers in Black. You can find our jointly-written fics by following the link below. Our main project right now is a fic called The Most Dangerous Game, but if you want to know more you'll just have to visit the page. We also have a section titled Create Your Own Fic, in which you can generate fanfics by completing "Mad Libs" that are geared specifically for fanfiction.

Survey of the Week/Month/Year

Take the survey, or Nabiki will get mad and play the accordion for you!!! MUWAHAHAHA.....

Okay, so not even she's that cruel. But please take the survey anyway. I'd greatly appreciate it.

And so would Nabiki.

If that wasn't enough for you, click here for an archive of past surveys.

Links

These are just a few of my favorite links out there... both to Ranma and to other stuff, anime and non-anime. I tried to include some more obscure links in addition to the ones that are fairly well-known, and more links will be added periodically.

If you didn't know that, then may I be the first to welcome to the planet Earth. Actually, it's kind of a mess down here- you'd probably be better off heading back to your native planet. And if you have room, how about inviting me along for the trip?
