On the volcanic, ash-ridden planet of Char, amidst the awesome magma flows and mudslides, the Zerg Overmind watched with pleasure as its greatest creation neared fruition. Enclosed within a protective chrysalis, and surrounded on all sides by a fiercely protective swarm of defenders, the Creature rapidly neared the moment of its birth. Across the distance that separated them, the Overmind reached out with its thoughts, hoping to hasten the moment of the Creature's birth. The Creature squirmed inside its chrysalis, as though it was somehow reacting to the thoughts of the Overmind. Again, the Creature stirred, but otherwise did not respond. It was still transforming, its entire structure and soul being remade as the Overmind saw fit. The Overmind continued to prod the chrysalis with psionic power, trying to bring its transformation to a completion. Finally, after a long time, the chrysalis began to vibrate as the creature inside struggled to emerge. Psionic emanations flowed from within the weakening shell, and the Overmind was pleased by their extraordinary power. They indicated that the transformation had been a success, and the Creature had indeed become one of the most powerful beings ever created by the Overmind. Cracks appeared in the chrysalis, and in a sudden burst of fluid it ruptured, allowing the contents inside to emerge. the Overmind beckoned to the Creature. The creature had once been a Terran, and on the outside it still looked remarkably similar to the person it had once been. It was no longer a pitiful, ordinary Terran, though-- changed by the sheer will of the Overmind, it now stood like a God, overlooking the vast Zerg cities that stretched across the entire barren surface of their hot, scorched homeworld. Then it smiled-- truly a disturbing thing to see-- and looked across the landscape. After a few moments it turned its gaze from the horizon, and looked down at the mat of Creep that stretched over every surface as far as the eye could see, providing a source of nutrients for the myriad array of biological formations that constituted the Zerg structures. The creature smiled again, and the Overmind felt a major disturbance begin to form in the psionic waves that constantly pulsed back and forth between it and the creature. The Overmind increased the strength of the psionic waves, but without warning the link between it and the creature broke. A backlash of psionic energy crashing against its inner mind, and the Overmind howled in pain. The overmind reached out to the creature again, desperately trying to reestablish the link to its creation. New energy began to pulse from the Creature, as though it was preparing to attack. It was too late, though, and the creature pulled from nowhere its weapons of choice. "My," said the Creature. "If this is to be my new home, I'd better start cleaning right away." Then, in a raspy voice, it began to hum as it dipped a mop into a bucket of soapy water, seemingly oblivious as it cleaned away Creep at an astonishing rate. The Overmind groaned in anguish as it struggled to re-exert its will on its ignorant creation. Infested Kerrigan had been one of its greatest creations; Infested Kasumi was shaping up to be somewhat less of a success.
